Domestic Carriers — Service Guide and Size Reference

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

This article covers the three domestic carriers available in Takumo Pro — Yamato Transport, Sagawa Express, and Japan Post — including their service profiles, size guides, and prohibited items.

Yamato Transport (宅急便)

Yamato is Japan's largest door-to-door parcel network and the default carrier for most hotel luggage forwarding. They offer same-day and next-day delivery across Japan and have the widest hotel integration experience.

💡 TIP

Size is the SUM of three dimensions. Measure length + width + height and select the band that is equal to or greater than the total.

Prohibited Items — Yamato

      Cash, cheques, financial instruments

      Passports, identification documents

      Jewellery, precious metals, gemstones

      Living animals

Perishable food items (unless temperature-controlled service used)

Hazardous materials — flammables, explosives, gases

      Items exceeding 200cm or 30kg

      Firearms, weapons, and controlled substances

Sagawa Express (飛脚宅配便)

Sagawa has a strong network particularly in western Japan and industrial corridors. A good alternative to Yamato especially for Osaka, Kyoto, and Kansai-region destinations.

Size bands and weight limits are broadly equivalent to Yamato. Prohibited items are similar. Refer to your Sagawa contract documentation for the specific current schedule of rates and restrictions.

Japan Post (Yu-Pack / ゆうパック)

Japan Post reaches everywhere Yamato and Sagawa do, plus remote islands and rural areas that private carriers sometimes do not service. Competitively priced for smaller items.

Size limit: up to 170cm combined, up to 25kg

Delivery typically next-day to 3 days depending on destination

Strong for remote island destinations (Okinawa, Hokkaido outlying areas)
